Free QR Code Generator

Create a QR code for a link, WiFi network, phone number, SMS or email in seconds. Pick the size, colour and error-correction level, then download a crisp PNG ready for print or screen. Your content never leaves your browser. No sign-up. No limits. A little on how they work. Masahiro Hara and his team at Denso Wave, then a Toyota supplier, invented the QR code in 1994 to track car parts faster than a barcode could, and the format is now the open ISO/IEC 18004 standard. The reason a code still scans when it is scuffed or partly covered is Reed-Solomon error correction, the same maths used on CDs and in deep-space transmission. The level you pick sets how much damage it tolerates, L about 7 percent, M about 15, Q about 25 and H about 30, which is why a code printed small or stuck on a bumpy surface does better at Q or H.

QR Code Generator

Pick what the code should do, fill in the details and download the PNG. The code redraws live as you type, entirely inside your browser.

These codes never expire. They are static, the content lives inside the pattern itself, with no service or subscription behind it. For marketing links, add UTM parameters to the URL first so scans show up as their own source in your analytics.

Make a QR Code in 3 Steps

1

Choose the Action

Pick what a scan should do, open a link, join a WiFi network, start a call, draft an SMS or open an email. Each type shows only the fields it needs, and the WiFi option handles the password and security type for you.

2

Style It

Set the pixel size, from 200 for screens up to 1000 for print, choose the error-correction level and pick a colour. Keep the code dark on a light background, scanners rely on that contrast.

3

Test and Download

Scan the live preview with your own phone before downloading, it takes five seconds and catches typos in the URL or password. Then download the PNG and drop it into your design.

What is a QR code?

A QR code is a square barcode that a phone camera reads in under a second. Invented in 1994 by Denso Wave to track parts on Toyota production lines, the Quick Response code stores its content, a link, WiFi credentials, a phone number, inside a grid of black and white modules. Every modern phone scans them natively from the camera app, no separate scanner needed, which turned the QR code into the default bridge between the physical world and the web.

The codes this tool makes are static. The content is encoded directly into the pattern, so there is no service behind it, no subscription, no expiry and nothing to renew. That is different from the dynamic codes sold by QR platforms, which point through the platform's redirect so scans can be counted and destinations edited, and which stop working the day the plan lapses. Static codes cannot be edited after printing, so proofread before you print.

The clever part of the format is error correction. A QR code carries redundant data, so it still scans with a chunk missing, roughly 7 percent at level L up to 30 percent at level H. That redundancy is what lets codes survive scratches, folds and even a small logo placed over the centre. The cost is density, higher correction means more modules packed into the same square, which is why H-level codes need to be printed a little larger.

Generation happens in your browser. The content you type never leaves your device, nothing is stored or logged, and the PNG downloads straight from the preview. That matters most for the WiFi option, your network password should not travel to a stranger's server just to become a picture.

What size and level does each use need?

Where the code goesSize + levelWhy
Website or screen200 to 300 px, level MScreens are clean and bright, so medium correction is plenty
Business card600 px print at 2 cm, level HSmall print plus pocket wear needs maximum redundancy
Flyer or menu600 px print at 3 to 4 cm, level M or QScanned at arm's length, handled often
Poster1000 px print at 15 to 20 cm, level MThe distance-divided-by-ten rule, 2 m viewing needs ~20 cm
Product packaging1000 px, level HCurved surfaces, laminate glare and shelf wear eat data
WiFi card for guests400 px print at 4 cm, level QScanned close but repeatedly, and reprinting is annoying

Two habits prevent nearly every failed scan. First, keep the quiet zone, the white margin around the code, clear of text, borders and background art, scanners use it to find the code's edges. Second, test a real print at real size with a real phone before the print run. A code that scans on your monitor can fail on paper because of laminate glare, low contrast ink or a size that looked fine in the design file, and the test costs thirty seconds.

Make QR Codes That Get Scanned

📊

Tag the URL Before Encoding

A QR scan looks like direct traffic in analytics unless you tell it otherwise. Add UTM parameters to the link first, source qr, medium print, campaign named after the flyer or poster, and every scan becomes measurable. Build the tagged link with the UTM tool on this site, then paste it here.

🎯

Give People a Reason to Scan

A bare code gets ignored. A short line next to it, scan for the menu, scan to join the WiFi, scan for 10 percent off, multiplies scans because people know what they are getting. And send them to a mobile-friendly page, because every single scanner is holding a phone.

🖨️

Own the Destination

Point printed codes at URLs on your own domain, not at third-party short links that can expire or get repurposed. If you need to change where a printed code leads later, you can edit or redirect your own page any time, which gives you dynamic-QR flexibility without the subscription.

A Free QR Generator Built From Real Campaign Work

This free QR code generator draws your code live as you type. Five content types cover the everyday jobs, open a link, join a WiFi network, start a call, draft an SMS or open a pre-addressed email. Choose the size up to 1000 pixels, the error-correction level and the colour, then download a clean PNG. There is no sign-up, no credit card, no watermark and no expiry on anything you make.

QR codes are where print budgets quietly leak. Over 17+ years of running campaigns across 500+ projects, I have seen the same failures repeat, a code pointing at a third-party short link that expired, a restaurant menu code sized too small to scan, a flyer where thousands of scans arrived in analytics as anonymous direct traffic because nobody tagged the URL. This generator bakes the fixes into the workflow, static codes that never expire, print-size guidance and a nudge to tag the link before encoding it.

It also fits the rest of an offline-to-online campaign. Tag your link with the free UTM parameter builder, encode it here, and preview how the landing page shows up in search with the free SERP snippet preview, check the page itself with the free SEO analyzer, or explore all the free SEO tools on this site.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a QR code?

A QR code, short for Quick Response code, is a square barcode a phone camera can read. It was invented in 1994 by Denso Wave in Japan to track car parts, and it stores text, a link, WiFi credentials or contact details in a grid of black and white modules. Point a modern phone camera at one and the content opens, no app needed, which is why it became the standard bridge between printed material and the web.

Do QR codes expire?

The codes this tool makes never expire. They are static, the content is baked into the pattern itself, so the code works as long as whatever it points to exists. What does expire is the destination, if the URL inside the code goes dead, the code scans fine but leads nowhere. Paid services advertise expiring QR codes, those are dynamic codes pointing through the service's redirect, and it is the redirect that stops working when the plan does.

What is the difference between static and dynamic QR codes?

A static code contains the destination directly, it is free forever, needs no service and cannot be edited after printing. A dynamic code contains a short redirect URL owned by a service, which lets you change the destination later and count scans, but ties the code to that service and its subscription. For most uses a static code pointing at a URL you control is the safer choice, and if you want editability, point the code at a page on your own site and change that page whenever you like.

What does the error-correction level do?

QR codes carry built-in redundancy so they still scan when partly damaged or covered. Level L survives about 7 percent damage, M about 15, Q about 25 and H about 30. Higher levels make the code denser, so the trade is durability against complexity. M is the sensible default for screens and clean print, while H suits codes that will be printed small, laminated, exposed to wear or overlaid with a logo.

How big should a printed QR code be?

Two centimetres square is the practical minimum for close-range scanning, and the working rule for anything further away is scanning distance divided by ten. A poster read from two metres needs a code around twenty centimetres wide. Leave a white margin around the code, the quiet zone, at least four modules wide, and test a print at real size before committing to a run, because glossy laminate and low contrast kill more scans than size does.

Is my content uploaded when I generate a QR code?

No. The code is drawn entirely in your browser, so the link, WiFi password or phone number you enter never leaves your device and nothing is stored or logged. The page loads its drawing library from a public CDN, after that the generation itself is local. That makes this safe for WiFi credentials and anything else you would not paste into an unknown web service.

Why Hire Me to Sharpen Your Content

This free tool connects print to digital. If you would rather have your content written or rewritten to read clearly and rank, here are a few honest reasons businesses hire me as their SEO and content consultant in India.

Clear Writing That Still Ranks

The right length and the right keywords are not opposites. I write content that covers a topic fully and targets the right terms, so it is easy for people to read and easy for Google and AI to understand.

Hands-On, Not Just Oversight

I started as a technical SEO trainee, not in a management seat, and I still write and edit the content myself. You get direct expertise, not a brief handed off to a junior writer.

I Built This Checker Myself

The QR code generator you just used, I built it, along with the other free SEO tools on this site. It is a direct look at how I think about clear content before you ever become a client.

Human Content in an AI World

AI drafts read stiff and generic. I edit content so it reads naturally at the right level, the kind of clear, human writing that keeps readers engaged and gets quoted in AI answers.

Direct Line to Me

Messages get a reply within 24 hours on business days, and WhatsApp is the fastest way to reach me for anything urgent. You are not waiting in a support queue.

Content Plus the Full Picture

Content length is one piece. Keyword research, on-page SEO and technical health all sit with one person who understands how they connect, so clear writing also becomes ranking writing.
