XML Sitemap Generator

Enter any URL and this sitemap generator online crawls your site from that URL, finds every page it can reach and builds the XML for website owners in seconds. Works for any website, WordPress, Blogger, Shopify or hand-built HTML.

How crawling works: This tool fetches and parses your website's HTML, following all internal links up to your chosen depth. For best results, enter your exact homepage URL including https://. Pages behind logins, noindex tags or JavaScript-only rendering are excluded automatically.
Crawls up to 5,000 pages, against the 500 most free tools stop at. This builds an XML sitemap, the file search engines read, not an HTML sitemap for humans. Enter your homepage URL and the crawler follows your internal links from there, so any page nothing links to will not be found.

What is an XML sitemap?

An XML sitemap is a file that lists the pages on your website so search engines can find them all. It sits at your root, usually at /sitemap.xml, and a sitemap generator builds it by crawling your site from its URL and recording every page it reaches. One file can hold up to 50,000 URLs and 50MB. Past that, you split it into several files and list them in a sitemap index.

Each entry carries up to four things. The loc is the page URL and is the only required one. Lastmod is the date it changed. Changefreq hints how often it updates and priority rates it from 0.0 to 1.0 against your other pages. Google has said it ignores changefreq and priority, so do not spend time tuning them. Lastmod it does use, but only when the dates are accurate.

A sitemap helps Google discover pages. It does not make them rank, and it will not rescue a page nothing links to.

This tool builds the standard page sitemap, which is what almost every site needs. There are also specialised types for specific content. An image sitemap lists pictures Google might otherwise miss, a video sitemap adds details like duration and thumbnail, and a news sitemap flags fresh articles for Google News and only suits approved publishers. Most sites never need these, because Google finds images and videos embedded in normally crawled pages. Reach for a specialised sitemap only when that content is central to your site and is not being picked up on its own.

Where does the sitemap go on your platform?

PlatformDo you need this tool?Where the sitemap livesWhat to do
WordPressUsually not/sitemap_index.xml or /sitemap.xmlYoast, Rank Math and WordPress itself generate one automatically. Use this tool to check what it contains
ShopifyNo/sitemap.xmlGenerated automatically and cannot be edited. Just submit it
Wix and SquarespaceNo/sitemap.xmlBuilt in. Submit it in Search Console
BloggerPartly/sitemap.xmlBlogger makes one for posts, but not for static pages. Generate and add those
Hand-built HTMLYesWherever you upload itNothing generates it for you. This is what this tool is for

If your platform already makes a sitemap, do not upload a second one. Two competing sitemaps confuse more than they help. Submit whichever is authoritative in Google Search Console, and read Google's own guidance on building a sitemap.

Checked July 2026 against each vendor's own pages. The 500-page cap is the industry norm for free browser tools, which is why "unlimited pages" is such a common search. Nothing browser-based is truly unlimited. Anyone claiming otherwise is either counting differently or about to ask for your email. This tool goes to 5,000 with no account, which covers the overwhelming majority of real websites. If you are on WordPress you already have a sitemap and do not need any of these, so use this to audit what yours contains instead.

A Free XML Sitemap Generator Built From Real Campaigns

This free sitemap generator builds an XML sitemap for any website online, working straight from URL with nothing to install. Enter your homepage and the crawler follows your internal links, then you get a ready sitemap.xml to upload and submit. It runs in the browser with no account and nothing to install, and it crawls up to 5,000 pages where most free sitemap generator tools stop at 500. It works for any website, whether that is WordPress, Blogger, Shopify or hand-built HTML.

Here is the part most sitemap generator tools will not tell you. If you run WordPress or Shopify, you almost certainly already have a sitemap and do not need to generate one. Over 17+ years across 500+ projects, the commonest sitemap problem I see is not a missing file. It is two competing files, or one full of URLs that redirect or return 404. So use this tool to crawl your site and see what a search engine actually finds, then compare that against the sitemap you already publish. The gap between those two is where the real problem lives.

A sitemap helps Google discover pages, it does not make them rank. If a page is missing from the crawl, the fix is an internal link pointing at it, not a line in an XML file. Check how your pages link to each other with the free link checker, see what you could rank for with the free keyword research tool, then browse the rest of the free SEO tools.

Of the optional fields, only one earns its place. Google's Gary Illyes has said outright that priority and changefreq are ignored, they were set to the maximum on almost every page until the signal meant nothing, so leaving them at defaults is harmless but pointless. The tag that does matter is lastmod, in ISO 8601 form, and only when it is honest, if a CMS stamps every URL with today's date Google notices and quietly stops trusting the field across the whole site. List only canonical, indexable URLs, never redirects, noindex pages or query-parameter versions, then submit the sitemap index in Google Search Console and point to it from robots.txt so search and AI crawlers alike can find it.

How Does the Crawl Work?

Nothing is guessed here. The tool fetches your pages from our own server, exactly as a search engine would, then follows the internal links it finds and records every page it can reach. That means the sitemap reflects what is actually discoverable on your site, which is the point. A page the crawler cannot reach is usually one Google struggles with too. Pages are cached for one hour. Lastmod is taken from the server response where the site provides it. Some sites block automated requests, and when that happens the tool says so rather than returning a half-finished file.

XML Sitemap Generator FAQ

Common questions about this free tool, answered clearly.

Do I need an XML sitemap?

A sitemap helps search engines find and crawl your pages. It matters most for larger sites, new sites with few links or sites with pages that are hard to reach by clicking. Small, well-linked sites still benefit from one.

Where do I submit my sitemap?

Submit it in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools. Also add a Sitemap line to your robots.txt so every crawler can find it.

How often should I update my sitemap?

Update it whenever you add or remove pages. Many sites regenerate it automatically on publish. A stale sitemap that lists dead pages wastes crawl budget.

Is there a sitemap generator for WordPress or Blogger?

WordPress already builds one. Yoast, Rank Math and WordPress core all publish a sitemap automatically, usually at /sitemap_index.xml, so you do not need to generate a second one. Blogger publishes a sitemap for posts but not for static pages, so generate one here and add those. Use this tool on either platform to crawl your site and check what a search engine actually finds, then compare that with the sitemap you already publish.

What is the difference between an XML sitemap and an HTML sitemap?

An XML sitemap is a machine-readable file at /sitemap.xml that lists your pages for search engines. An HTML sitemap is an ordinary page of links built for human visitors. This tool generates the XML kind, which is the one you submit to Google Search Console. An HTML sitemap is optional and mostly helps navigation on very large sites.

Where do I upload the sitemap and submit it?

Upload the file to your site root so it sits at yoursite.com/sitemap.xml, then add a line reading Sitemap: https://yoursite.com/sitemap.xml to your robots.txt. Finally submit the URL in Google Search Console under Sitemaps. Submitting it asks Google to crawl, it does not guarantee every page gets indexed.

Is there a free sitemap generator with unlimited pages?

Not really, no. Every browser-based tool has a ceiling somewhere, and most free sitemap generators stop at 500 pages, which is why so many people search for unlimited. This one goes up to 5,000 pages with no account and nothing to pay, which covers the vast majority of real websites. If your site is truly larger than that, you want a desktop crawler such as Screaming Frog on a paid licence rather than any browser tool. Your CMS sitemap is the other option.

Is this better than the Small SEO Tools sitemap generator?

It crawls ten times more pages, 5,000 against the 500 most free tools allow, and it shows you the crawl as it happens so you can see which pages were found. Beyond that they do the same job. If a 500-page sitemap is all you need, any of these tools will do it. The page limit only matters once your site outgrows it.

Do I need a sitemap generator plugin instead?

If you run WordPress then yes, and you probably already have one. Yoast, Rank Math and WordPress core all generate a sitemap automatically with no page limit. A plugin also keeps it updated whenever you publish. Use this tool alongside the plugin rather than instead of it. Crawl your site here and compare what the crawler finds against what your plugin publishes. The gap between those two is usually where the real indexing problem is.

Can this build a visual sitemap or an HTML sitemap?

No. This generates an XML sitemap, which is the machine-readable file search engines read. A visual sitemap is a diagram of your site structure for planning, and an HTML sitemap is a page of links for human visitors. Different tools, different jobs. The XML file is the one you submit to Google Search Console.

Why Hire Me to Fix Your Technical SEO

This free tool builds the sitemap. If you would rather have someone fix why pages are not getting indexed at all, here are a few honest reasons businesses hire me as their SEO and digital marketing consultant in India.

Indexing Problems, Solved Properly

A sitemap is rarely the reason pages are not indexed. Thin content, orphan pages and crawl budget usually are. I find the actual cause instead of resubmitting the file and hoping.

Hands-On, Not Just Oversight

I started as a technical SEO trainee, not in a management seat, and I still do the crawling and log analysis myself. You get direct expertise, not a plan handed to someone else to run.

I Built This Tool Myself

The sitemap generator you just used, I designed it, along with 22 other free SEO tools on this site. It is a direct look at how I crawl a site before you ever become a client.

Orphan Pages Found and Linked

If the crawler cannot reach a page from your homepage, Google probably struggles too. I find those pages and give them a real internal link, which fixes the cause rather than the symptom.

Direct Line to Me

Messages get a reply within 24 hours on business days, and WhatsApp is the fastest way to reach me for anything urgent. You are not waiting in a support queue.

Built for Search and AI

AI crawlers do not run JavaScript, so a site that renders everything client side is invisible to them. I make sure your pages exist in the HTML, not just in the browser.
